Dear Dr. Lev-El. A few days ago I went for an X-Ray. This is what the doctors concluded: Overall bony minerilastion normal. There is mild sharpening of the tibial spines medially in both knees. There is also minimal lipping at the medial articular angles of both knees especially on the right. Minimal lipping affects the patella articular angles on both sides. Knee and patello-femoral joint spaces of normal width and no loosed bony bodies or signs of chondrocalcinosis. No patellar subluxation or gross soft tissue swelling. Why are the knees retaining fluid? After about half an hour of standing I experience stiffness in both knees and I am unable to use the joints properly. I am taking Glucosamine and anti-inflamitory tablets to ease the stiffness. I must say that after 5 sessions of accupuncture, the pain has subsided. Which direction should I take now, as my knees are very uncomfortable? Waiting for your reply, with many thanks for all your help, Edna

Dear Edna Yours letter is a bit of a shambeles .yet I think I could understand it/ The description of the XR is typical for early osteoarthritis And that is probably Urs problem. Yet it is not impossible that U are suffering from degenerative menscal tears and/or cartilagenous loose bodies . The effusion U suffer from is part of the problem and yet it might be a result of some kind of arthritis like crystal deposition arthritis (gout or pseudogout) or reactive arthritis or even rheumatic problem. Tese possibilities should be investigated by studies of the joint fluid and relevat blood tests Sincerely A.Lev-el
