Sent: Saturday, August 27, 2005 9:00 PM Re: Cellulitis--Backpacks for school > Thank you Caroline, again, for the help! Yellow areas on the skin in primary lymphedema patients could be chylous reflux - these have a blister like appearance. The blister fills with a milky fluid. Rupture of these blisters causes a milky leakage AND the possibility of infection as skin bacteria now have a port of entry. Lymphedema which includes chylous reflux needs to be diagnosed AND treated by a lymphology specialist as it involves the intestine. A dietician also needs to be consulted regarding the best diet for Ryann. However, if these areas are not blisters, consultation with a dermatologist may help to provide an answer regarding necessity for intervention OR not. . Regarding the school bag - my preference would be wheels, but Ryann also needs to feel comfortable with her peers AND I would be flexible as long as the bag is not worsening her lymphedema in any way.
