Please help!!!! I feel like all I do all day is...

I have a newborn baby (18 days old, in the last few days he wantsno nurse every 1.5-2 hours, and he nurses for at least an hour each time, then he might fall asleep, for 20-40 minutes and then he wants to nurse again. the question is: 1. Is this a normal situation for a newborn??? 2. I am afraid that he doesn't sleep enough, should I be concerned? He's lached on right, he does eat all the time while he nurses, he's not sleeping. Iam supplumenting him with formula. Any advice will be apreciated. Shira.

Hi Shira, The English seems to get mixed up but If I understand correctly, you are concerned because the baby wants to eat all the time and doesn't sleep for long intervals? This is normal behaviour for a baby of this age. He will sleep when he is tired, and eat or latch on when he is hungry/thirsty/wants to suck/or wants to be near you and warmed. As long as he is calm or calmed by the breast, and has 6-8 wet diapers each day (24hrs) and is gaining nicely, then there is no need for formula. Formula will just cause your supply to lessen and often can lead to early weaning due to bottle preference. hope you get this okay. sounds like you could get some support from La Leche League. call us. 6472411 03
