2year old wakes up in the middle of the night

Hello My son is 2 and 3 moths, he wakes up sometimes in the middle of the night and stays awake for a few hours , sometimes he can be hungry but sometimes he just want to play. I have to add that it doesn't happen very often but much more lately. is there some kind of explanation or reason behind this? Should we consult a doctor?
