I am a student in 6th year and i have a question: A 35 years old man had acute sinusitis, first time in life. He was treated with augmentin for 6 days.(by the family doctor) 1. is 6 days of treatment is enough? (i think that one need 8-14 days of treatment) after 6 days , there was partially relief , but he still has pain over the lt. maxillary sinus, and large amount of green discharge. the family doctor gave him RULID & asked him to do X ray. 2. I think that the prefered next antibiotic treatmen is zinat. what is your opinion? 3. After a 6 days of tretment, what would be expected to see in x ray?
Hi Usually the treatment of an uncomplicated sinusits should last for 17-21 days. 6 days of antibiotics should result in some relief but of course not a cure. X ray change is seen in a leg of arround 2-3 weeks after the first x ray was done. I strongly recommend antibiotics for 3 weeks . during this period you should expect symptom relief, if not , change antibiotics, if still no relief than sinus irrigation should be considered.
